Owner/Lead Dog Trainer:
As a fully certified Dog Trainer based in Charlotte, I’ve been doing dog behavior modification for 5 years and human behavior change (ABA) for 13 years. My true love and passion has always been dogs. During the day I am a behavior analyst for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Using the same core methods of behavior analysis, I have been able to mesh my two passions of dogs and changing behavior.

We just got our first puppy in October 2020, we had so many worries and concerns on how to train our new puppy with obedience, potty training, and of course making sure he was a good boy. We thought we were doing pretty good on our own until we saw the massive improvement in his behavior and obedience after a few sessions with this amazing dog trainer. Alicia Costner has truly been a godsend to our family. Our son, who is on the autism spectrum, has a profound fear of dogs which has devastated his quality of life, keeping him from going out in the community and enjoying activities which bring him great joy. Because of his limited verbal skills, conventional therapies just didn't work for him so with Alicia's experience as a behavioral analyst coupled with her vast knowledge (and undeniable love) of dogs, made her a RARE find for us. She has been a delight to work with, extremely knowledgeable, patient, professional and she really takes aim at being attentive to our son's specific needs while problem-solving with creative, insightful solutions. Her instincts have been spot-on with reading our son's (and dog's) behaviors and knowing what steps need to be taken with gentle, gradual exposure to help him build trust, security and confidence in the presence of dogs. I've learned so much working with her as she has given us valuable tools to work on at home and out in the community. I 100% recommend Alicia @ Costner Canine Training!!
